Here’s our Startempire Weekly Round-Up. There’s a big push in the logistics and distribution sector of the Inland Empire. Amazon is opening new fulfillment centers and air hubs, and the region is ranked highly in the electric vehicles (EVs) space.
The Inland Empire attracts Amazon, yet again.
Two news items we reported indicate the Inland Empire’s growing role as an economic hub of the country. Amazon announced its two new sites in Victorville and Ontario, respectively. The company announced it will open a new fulfillment center in Victorville in 2022, followed by another in Ontario in the same year. In April this year, Amazon also announced the opening of a new air hub in San Bernardino.
Our second story was about the Inland Empire ranking 10th in the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs). Showing that the region is emerging as a hub of electric vehicle ownership, it further strengthens its position as a traditionally strong logistics hub.

Grants
At the beginning of this week, we reported on the $3.8M grant that the NSF gave to California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). There’s a massive shortage of cybersecurity professionals, somewhere between 500K and 3 million. (ISC)², the International Information System Security Certification Consortium said that the gap stands at 3 million. The grant will help CSUSB to begin to plug this talent gap.
Another grant we reported on was the Wells Fargo Open for Business Fund, which gave a $1M grant to a partnership between Caravanserai Project, the Inland Empire Community Collaborative (IECC), and the Inland Empire Community Foundation (IECF).
