Tax Incentives Legislation for Solar Carports in California
According to California Senator Josh Becker’s SB 49, which is still undefined, the state should provide a tax credit to encourage the use of solar energy in parking lots. The new legislative bill aims to use a tax incentive to promote the building of solar carports across the state. Early in 2023, this proposed legislation will be up for discussion.

The editors of the Beverage Industry’s annual Best Packages of Year feature have chosen a selection of package releases that showcase beverage manufacturers’ efforts to use sustainable packaging for their brands. Buzzbox, an Inland Empire-based beverage company, was also featured for offering the best beverage packages. Buzzbox Premium Drinks, based in Indio, California, unveiled new packaging for its ready-to-drink, all-natural ingredient cocktails this past summer.
Inland Empire Business Activity Grows 2.3% in Q3’22: Trend to Hold in 2023
The UCR School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development released the new Inland Empire Business Activity Index on 15th December. The Inland Empire Business Activity Index mainly accounts for seasonal changes and measures the performance of the regional economy of the Inland Empire every quarter. The new index shows that business activity in the area grew at a 2.8% annualized rate during the third quarter of 2022.
San Bernardino Startup Fenix Space Presents its Innovative Air-launch Platform
The fall 2022 Techstars class met in Downtown Los Angeles on December 7, 2022, to present their projects to prospective investors. Fenix Space. a San Bernardino startup also presented at the event. The startup was founded in 2017. Unlike Virgin Galactic, Fenix Space uses a different air launch rocket; it intends to pull the rockets through the air rather than attach them to a big aircraft like Virgin Galactic.

A Study about Ventilators by UCR Researchers became a research breakthrough in 2022
There has been a long-standing question in pulmonary medicine of whether ventilators damage lung tissue. UC Riverside’s Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering produced breakthrough research showing ventilators damage lung tissue. The findings could pave the way for improved ventilators. The research was cited as part of 12 breakthrough studies by UC researchers in 2022.
