Weekly Wire RoundUp #11 Video
San Bernardino County and Top 10 IE Investors
This week we started with The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s (SBCTA) approval of an underground rail project. Elon Musk’s boring company is slated to build tunnels for this project.
This week we also covered the top 10 startup investors of the Inland Empire. This research was based on CrunchBase Data and compiled by Blended Impact, a venture capital (VC) firm with offices in Los Angeles, CA & Riverside, CA. Among these investors and accelerators, there are some big-name companies like 500 Startups, Tech Stars, and crowdfunding equity platform StartEngine.
Also part of this list was Tech Coast Angels, which has an Inland Empire chapter that conducts local meetups. It covers the area east of Los Angeles, including Riverside and San Bernardino.
A $50M Fund and Business Grants
We covered UCR’s launch of a $50M Beyond Brilliant student fund. The UCR initiative to raise $50M in the next five years will support students — especially those from low-income families.
We also shared how Erik Anderson, through Anderson Community Partners, provided this fund’s seed funding.
As for grants, we shared the Founder’s First CDC’s program of awarding a total of $100,000 in free grants for 30 diverse-led businesses in Southern California. They aim to help companies achieve $10M in revenues and beyond.
Finding Green Incentives
We spotlight a simple yet innovative startup called IncentiFind, which lets building owners and real estate development companies find incentives to make buildings energy efficient.
IncentiFind lists 46K incentives by Fed, State, and City governments that anyone into home remodeling, building energy management, and real estate development can avail.
Finally, we covered a breakthrough that is happening in San Bernardino County. The county is set to have its utility-scale solar power project called Dagget Solar Power. This solar photovoltaic electricity generation and energy storage facility will produce up to 650 megawatts (MW) of power and include up to 450 MW of battery storage capacity on approximately 3,500 acres of land.
