UCR School of Business Breaks Ground on Ambitious New Building to Serve Students and Community

  • UCR School of Business outgrew its historic home at Anderson Hall and embarked on an ambitious journey to design and build a new facility.
  • The new building will house all of the school’s programs and faculty. The classes will be designed to adapt to changing uses and technology, with flexible spaces for indoor and outdoor in-person learning, studying, event, and meeting spaces.
  • The building is expected to be LEED-certified, focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency. 

Southern California Edison Offers Demand Response Programs for Energy Bill Savings

  • Southern California Edison offers three Demand Response programs to help customers manage their energy usage and bills during summer.
  • The Smart Energy Program, Summer Discount Plan, and Power Saver Rewards programs provide customer incentives to conserve energy during peak periods and summer months, resulting in bill credits.
  • Enrollment for all three programs is free, although customers can only participate in one program at a time.

California Ports Collaborate for Enhancing Freight System Resilience and Economic Competitiveness

  • California’s five containerized ports have signed an MOU to launch the California Port Data Partnership to improve the supply chain’s efficiency and transparency.
  • The partnership will enable the ports to work together to manage the flow of cargo and goods more efficiently and reduce delays, aiding the entire goods movement industry from the docks to doorsteps.
  • The California Port Data Partnership is expected to bring several benefits to the California economy, including improved freight system resilience, goods movement efficiency, emissions reduction, and economic competitiveness. It is supported by a $27M grant from GO-Biz.

Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area ranked among the Top 10 for Energy Efficient Buildings.

  • The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area is ranked sixth in the nation for ENERGY STAR-certified commercial and multifamily buildings, highlighting the region’s commitment to sustainability.
  • ENERGY STAR-certified buildings use an average of 35% less energy. They are responsible for 35% less carbon dioxide emissions than typical buildings, making them an effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money.
  • Riverside Public Utilities offers energy efficiency programs to help commercial customers implement industry best practices, achieve ENERGY STAR certification, and reduce their environmental footprint.

Meet the Winners of Riverside County Innovation Month Fast Pitch Finale 2023

  1. Riverside County Innovation Month Fast Pitch Finale 2023 showcased some of the most innovative startups in the region, with Sulfuron, Inc., StarNav LLC, and Moducan Corporation emerging as the top three startups, respectively.
  2. StarNav LLC, a local Riverside County startup, is developing advanced technology for accurate and reliable position, navigation, and timing systems, which was among six startups that received $7 million from the Army Applied Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Their technology is crucial in a world where GPS is threatened by other countries and jamming.
  3. Other winners include Moducan Corporation, which offers a complete system of modular tactical buildings and defense systems.
  4. The 1st prize went to Sulfuron aims to develop advanced materials for next-generation batteries and manufacture ultra-high-performance all-solid-state batteries.
