We Covered this in our Weekly Wire Roundup
What’s Care Studio by Google?
Google developed Care Studio, an electronic health records search engine that helps physicians access relevant patient records through an interface.
More than a year ago, the software giant Google and its first health system partner, Ascension, shared patient data, and the two companies received harsh criticism.
Besides testing an EHR search engine, the collaboration with Ascension intended to develop a user interface. This interface will combine patient electronic health records into an easy-to-use interface so physicians can access valuable information.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center joined Ascension.
After the controversy, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center joined the clinical search tool’s trial program in February 2021.
Google Health’s Care Studio Joined Hands with Desert Oasis Healthcare
Desert Oasis Healthcare is a network of primary and specialty care providers that is a part of the Heritage Provider Network. More than 60,000 members and patients in the greater Coachella Valley and the Morongo Basin of Riverside and San Bernardino counties in Southern California receive primary care, urgent care, home health, palliative care, clinical research studies, and other services from Desert Oasis Healthcare.
350 specialists and roughly 110 primary care practitioners are working for the company.
DOHC provides healthcare to a population with a variety of chronic medical illnesses. The medical organization practices preventative medicine, but Hodgkins claims that data silos and fragmentation make this problematic.
Clinicians use several databases to grasp patients’ medical histories and prepare for appointments.
Paul Muret, vice president and general manager of Care Studio at Google Health, claims that DOHC physicians can access a more comprehensive view of a patient’s history in one location because of Care Studio technology.
The collaboration gives Google’s healthcare a chance to investigate the application of its technologies in a value-based care environment.
Desert Oasis Healthcare to Pilot Google’s Care Studio in 2023
Beginning in 2023, a group of Desert Oasis Healthcare providers will try out Care Studio’s search and summarizing features.
According to the groups, who spoke with Fierce Healthcare in an exclusive interview this week, the technology will be made available to more consumers over time.
“This is really impressive technology. We are kind of geeked to work with Google on this shared mission,” Brian Hodgkins, Pharm.D., executive vice president of clinical operations and ACO at Desert Oasis Healthcare, said in an interview. “We honestly expect this to be a game changer for healthcare.”
Google Health Expands its AI Capabilities
Google Health also revealed a new Conditions feature at the ViVE 2022 conference in March. It employs natural language processing (NLP) to give doctors a dynamic list of conditions taken from the patient record. Doctors will also get relevant information such as prescriptions, labs, vitals, and comments.
Meditech: The first EHR Vendor to integrate with Care Studio.
After announcing the new NLP feature, Google Health also announced the technology’s first-ever connection with an e-health record vendor at HIMSS 2022. They established a relationship with Meditech in the spring of last year. This marked Care Studio’s first connection with an EHR vendor.
Wrap Up!
A population with various chronic medical conditions is cared for by DOHC. According to Google Health, Care Studio technology allows DOHC doctors to receive a more thorough snapshot of a patient’s history in one place.
For ease of access by clinicians, the clinical software application Care Studio aggregates healthcare data from several sources.
