Southern California Edison (SCE) is committed to helping customers save money on their electricity bills, especially during the hot summer months when energy consumption increases. SCE has three demand response programs that incentivize customers to conserve energy during the summer months or when demand response program events are called. The programs offer bill credits to customers who participate in them. This article will highlight the three SCE demand response programs that help customers save money on their bills this summer.
Smart Energy Program
The Smart Energy Program is a demand response program that rewards customers using a qualified smart thermostat with a central air conditioning system. Customers who enroll in the program earn a one-time $75 sign-up credit and up to $40 in annual bill credits when maintaining enrollment from June 1 through September 30. SCE automatically adjusts customers’ smart thermostats by up to four degrees during Smart Energy Program events to save energy. However, customers may override events by readjusting the temperature on the thermostat.
Customers can earn up to $115 in incentives by participating in the Smart Energy Program. In addition, customers with a smart thermostat can use the program’s mobile app to control their air conditioning from their smartphones, allowing them to adjust the temperature even when not at home.
Summer Discount Plan
The Summer Discount Plan is another demand response program offered by SCE. It is designed to help customers save money on their summer electric bills. Customers must have a central air conditioning system to qualify for the program. SCE automatically cycles customers’ air conditioners off and on during Summer Discount Plan events to conserve electricity in exchange for bill credits. Customers can choose their comfort level, including the ability to override up to five times per year. Customers can earn up to $180 in summer bill credits by participating in the Summer Discount Plan.
Power Saver Rewards
The Power Saver Rewards program is designed to reward customers who reduce their electricity use during program events between 4-9 p.m., from May 1 through October 31. Bill credits are awarded at the start of each year, following the previous year’s participation. There is no penalty for not participating in Power Saver Rewards program events. However, the more customers save, the more they earn.
By participating in the Power Saver Rewards program, customers can earn an average of $40 in bill credits yearly. Customers who enroll in the program receive alerts when an event is scheduled so they know when to reduce their electricity use. Customers can reduce their electricity use by turning off lights, unplugging electronics, and delaying the use of appliances.
Conclusion
Southern California Edison’s demand response programs are an excellent way for customers to earn bill credits while conserving energy during the hot summer.
The Smart Energy Program, Summer Discount Plan, and Power Saver Rewards program offer customers different options depending on their comfort level and energy-saving goals. SCE is committed to helping customers save money and conserve energy, and their demand response programs are one of the many ways they do so.
By participating in these programs, customers can take control of their energy consumption, save money on their electric bills, and help the environment by reducing their carbon footprint.
