Southern California Edison Offers Demand Response Programs for Energy Bill Savings

As the summer months approach, Southern California Edison (SCE) provides its customers with three Demand Response programs to help manage their energy usage and bills. These programs offer incentives for customers who conserve energy during peak periods and summer months.

The Smart Energy Program

The Smart Energy Program is an initiative that provides customers with up to $115 in incentives. The program requires a qualifying smart thermostat with a central air-conditioning system. Customers who maintain enrollment from June 1 through Sept. 30 can earn a one-time $75 sign-up credit and up to $40 in annual bill credits.

SCE automatically adjusts customers’ smart thermostats by up to four degrees during Smart Energy Program events to save energy. However, customers can override these events by readjusting the temperature on their thermostats.

Summer Discount Plan

SCE’s Summer Discount Plan provides customers with up to $180 in summer bill credits. To qualify for this program, customers must have a central air-conditioning system. During Summer Discount Plan events, SCE automatically cycles customers’ air conditioners off and on to conserve electricity in exchange for bill credits. Customers can choose their comfort level with the program’s flexible options, including the ability to override up to five times per year. Bill credits are earned from June 1 through Sept. 30.

Power Saver Rewards

The Power Saver Rewards program offers customers an average of $40 in bill credits yearly for reducing their electricity use during program events between 4-9 p.m., May 1 through Oct. 31. Customers receive bill credits at the start of each year based on the previous year’s participation. However, there is no penalty for not participating in program events. The more customers save, the more they earn.

Enrollment and Benefits

Enrollment for all three programs is free, although customers must only participate in one program at a time. SCE rewards customers who conserve energy during peak periods with bill credits, which can significantly reduce their energy bills. Customers who enroll in these programs help save money and also contribute to a sustainable environment by reducing their carbon footprint.
