Iteris, a technology ecosystem for smart mobility infrastructure management, was recently awarded a $2.5 million contract from the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA). Iteris will be tasked to monitor and maintain the San Bernardino Valley Coordinated Traffic Signal System (SBVCTSS) and develop a Smart County Master Plan for all of San Bernardino County.
Additionally, Iteris will develop a Smart County Master Plan for San Bernardino County, covering all 24 cities and several other agencies. The plan will define and evaluate a broad spectrum of technology to serve as a roadmap for developing and implementing a Smart County Strategy.
The first Smart County Master Plan of this enormity
Although Smart City Master Plans and implementation of tech-driven technologies have taken place in numerous other cities, this plan is the first Smart County Master Plan of this magnitude that covers the largest county in the U.S. Iteris’.
“A Smart County project of this size will go a long way in making mobility safer, more efficient, and more sustainable in California. We applaud the forward thinking and commitment to an initiative that will serve the community for decades. We are honored to work on it with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority and the San Bernardino Council of Governments (SBCOG).”

Iteris’s Other Smart Projects in San Bernardino County
Iteris is a leading provider of applied informatics for transportation and has been involved in several projects in San Bernardino County. Some
Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)
One major project is deploying an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along the I-10 corridor – a 50-mile stretch of highway that runs through San Bernardino County. Installing advanced technologies such as CCTV cameras and sensors provides real-time traffic information and improves road safety.
Signal Synchronization
Iteris has also worked on the signal synchronization project, aiming to optimize traffic flow by coordinating traffic signals at major intersections. It resulted in significant improvements in travel time and reduced traffic congestion.
Active Transportation
Another project taken by Iteris has provided services to improve active transportation in San Bernardino County. The company assisted in developing multi-use paths, bike lanes, and pedestrian-friendly designs to promote sustainable conveyance for the public.
Wrap-up
Iteris was awarded a $2.5 million contract to monitor and maintain the San Bernardino Valley Coordinated Traffic Signal System while also developing a Smart County Master Plan for all of San Bernardino County. This plan is the first to cover the largest county in the U.S., and Iteris has previously worked on several other smart mobility projects in the region, including an Intelligent Transportation System along the I-10 corridor, signal synchronization, and active transportation.
